Problem :

I am new to the Magento. When I try to install the Magento to Localhost it gives me below Error-

One or more indexers are invalid. Make sure your Magento cron job is running.

I have also tried the following to re index a Indexer

php bin/magento indexer:reindex

I did not find any help from above command.

Why is above Error happening? How can I fix the above error?

Solution :

I had also faced a similar issue in a recent past. I did lot of research on it and found a solution on it. This is a very common problem with a people getting started.

You need to open magento folder and hold shift +right click ->use command window here and then write as below:

php bin/magento indexer:reindex

And hit the enter wait for some time to process

OR

To reindex in the Magento 2, go to a CLI and then to the root folder of your Magento installation and just run the below command :

php bin/magento indexer:reindex

 OR

You have to reindex all of the indexes using below cmd command.

php bin/magento indexer:reindex

Above one is not the error, whenever you install the magento it requires to build the indexes.

This error message is mostly displayed on the Magento Admin panel when the data is not indexed properly. Troubleshooting for this error is simple. The error itself gives you hints on how to address this issue.

Indexing:

Indexing can be defined as How Magento transforms your data such as categories, products, and catalogs. The indexing is performed to improve the performance of your storefront.

Reindex data:

The data reindexing can be easily performed on your Magento admin panel.

  • Login to your admin panel as Administrator.
  • Navigate to system > Index management.
  • To update only one index, click on the Reindex data link in the Action column to the right. To update more than one index, select the checkbox next to its name. From the action list, click on Reindex data and then click on submit.
  • Please wait until the re-index is completed.

Set a cron job:

The user can set a cron job to reindex the data automatically. The cron job can be set by two methods;

  • cPanel
  • Command Line

Via cPanel:

  • Login to cPanel.
  • Click on the cron job, under the Advanced tab group.
  • If you have already created a cron job, you can edit it or can create a new job.
  • Select the frequency to run the cron job.
  • Write the following command to reindex your data;
  • $ php-cli /home/username/public_html/sub_folder_if_any/bin/magento      indexer:reindex

Save it as per schedule frequency. Now the cron job will run.
