Elastic Search : Fundamental for begineers

Elasticsearch documentation is more of a reference guide and there are few tutorials and examples for getting started with elasticsearch. But none of the blogs dive deep into the advanced details. This blog will cover some advance topics in addition to the basics of elasticsearch.

What is Elasticsearch

Elasticsearch is an open source, distributed, RESTful, full-text search engine built on top of Apache Lucene. Elasticsearch is developed in JAVA. It uses schema free JSON documents and comes with extensive REST APIs for storing and searching the data.

Set up and Installation

Elasticsearch can be downloaded from here. Download and unzip it and run bin/elasticsearch or bin\elasticsearch.bat (on Windows). Installation guides for other operating systems can be found here. The current version of elasticsearch 6.3.2 will be used throughout this post.

To verify if the server has started, open any browser and go to http://localhost:9200 or use any HTTP client and fire a GET request with the same URL. I will be using Postman for this blog.

It’s that simple. Now that we have installed elasticsearch and the server is up and running, we will see technical details of elasticsearch in another tutorial.

Thanks and support.
