As a Windows 10 user, you may have noticed that you always have to install automatic Windows updates (whether you like it or not). It seems that it is impossible to disable Windows 10 update, regardless of Control Panel or Settings.

This is annoying, isn't it? Whenever you work on your computer, Windows automatically updates the system and you can't even keep the current work until you restart your computer and you need to reboot your system very often, spending a lot of time restarting and updating.

How can I stop automatic updates in Windows 10?

Do not worry! There are several solutions to stop updating Windows 10. In this article, I will describe an easy way to stop updating Windows 10. You don't need to follow them all; just choose the one that suits you.

Update options in Windows 10:

On Windows 8.1 and earlier, you can update Windows in the following four options:

  •  Install updates automatically (recommended)
  •  Download updates, but choose when to install them.
  •  Check for updates, but let me choose when to download and install them
  •  Never check for updates (not recommended)

Therefore, you can decide when to download updates on your own. But now these options are not available in Windows 10 and you are forced to automatically install updates on your computer (whether you like it or not). It can prevent or fix problems, improve Windows performance, and save you time to keep Windows up to date. However, sometimes you may run into a situation where new updates can interfere with the current work that you are doing. To avoid this, you can choose when to install Windows updates as you like. You can try the following ways to disable Windows 10 update.

Method; Disable Windows Update service to completely stop Windows 10 update:

Windows Update can detect, download, and install Windows updates and programs. Once disabled, you will not be able to use the Windows automatic update feature and programs will not be able to automatically download and install updates. To do this follow the instructions:

Step 1) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key + R at the same time to bring up the Run window.

Step 2) Type services.msc and press Enter.

Step 3)  Scroll down to Windows Update and double click on it.

Step 4)  In the Startup Type field, select Disabled. Then click “Apply” and “OK” to save the settings.

Step 5) If you stopped Windows Update service for the first time, you may need one more step:

In the Windows Update Options panel, go to the Recovery tab, select Take No Action under First Error, then click Apply and OK to save the setting.

Step 6) Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

If you disable Windows Update, your computer will not be able to download updates. When you manually click to update, you will see a message stating that the updates were not installed because the computer was turned off. Therefore, if you want to update Windows 10, you can go to Windows Update service and select Automatic to enable the service. Then you will be able to update your Windows.
